speak to a member of ebay customer services

my son is the seller of a piece of IT equipment which was videoed and photographed as working perfectly when it left.

the buyer a person with only one transaction on eBay said it did not work when he received it.

he then claimed a refund

but with a £400 graphics card and a great selling and buying record on eBay, my son is at a loss as to what to do.

Videoing item is no proof that you sent that item.

If buyer opens item not as described case, issue returns label & refund in full on return.

If you ignore or refuse case, ebay can force refund & buyer keeps item.

You can try to appeal to ebay once item is returned.

Good luck.

I'm afraid that he will be at an even bigger loss if he doesn't accept the return and send the buyer a prepaid label.

Otherwise, eBay. will simply enforce a refund without the item having to be returned. Plus he will be penalised with an account defect.

Sorry, but that's the reality for sellers on eBay today. eBay never sees the items concerned and its defaut response is to support the buyer and require the seller to refund them. The seller can appeal once the item has been returned and refunded, but this would be pointless - a video of the item working before it was delivered will count for nothing.

In all but name, eBay is "for sale or return" now. Buyers can find any fault to return items for a full refund at the seller's expence, including postage both ways. The best that sellers can hope for is to get their items back in the same condition they were supplied.
