simply delivery with lost parcel

My parcel is being returned to me, but I haven’t received it yet. The buyer is waiting for a refund.
Should I ask the buyer to open a case so eBay can investigate, and possibly receive compensation for the lost parcel?
It was sent with a simple delivery (not eBay Packlink), so I can’t claim it through Packlink.
What is the best thing to do in this situation?

I appreciate your help!

If the item had an attempted delivery the buyer will not receive a refund,  but if you receive the item back, in my humble opinion it's morally correct to then refund your buyer you may need to do this via PayPal,  a cheque or bank transfer.

If the item was not delivered at all,  not attempts to deliver,  ask your buyer to open a case for item not received.  Under Simple Delivery rules,  eBay refund the buyer,  and you get to keep the payout.

Yes, you're correct to ask the buyer to open an eBay item not received claim if this was sent with a Simple Delivery label.
