Last week the seller gave me a refund and the case was closed. Now the seller has asked me to pay for a return postage label and wants' me to pay for the return and then give me the return postage cost. what do I do now. I thought that once a case was closed that was it it's final and the case is closed. please advise what to do and does the violate eBay policies ?

Nope, that's not what should happen now,  that is,  you are not liable for any cost for the return of the item,  indeed you are not liable for the return at all , because a refund was made before its return. You did not even have to keep the item after the refund, and allowed to dispose of it as you wished.

Was this a  case for item not as described?  Then,  the seller should have provided and paid for that return label  through the case details,  then only refunded when they received their item.

Do you still have the item?  Then, if the seller wants this back , They have to provide that fully tracked return label, and this cannot be done through eBay now as the transaction closed with a refund.

There are posts in this forum almost daily from sellers who don't really understand how refunds and returns work, who refund their buyers promptly and then don't understand why the item they have refunded is not returned.

Ebay have closed the case because you have been refunded.

The seller has given you your money back and would like the return of their item.  That is not unreasonable and to do 'the right thing' and get the item back to the seller would not be against Ebay policy.

Negotiate with the seller.

Could they send you a pre-addressed postage bag with stamps on for you to return the item?

Could you share paypal/bank account details so they can send you an amount sufficient for postage?

Can they buy a label from Royal Mail and email it to you?

Negotiate with the seller. I am happy to send this item back and for the
seller to give me the money back, the point it this seller is not a novice
they have been with eBay since 2019, a 6 year veteran of eBay selling
should know what they are doing, just like my 23 years of service with
eBay. If the seller just sent a return label to me there would not be any
issue at all. jckl1957 (Experienced Mentor) I will not be bullied into
paying for the return postage and I did do the right thing in contacting
the seller and asking for the label, they keep saying I buy the label and
they will send the money to me, this is the wrong way to run a business, I
can't go to the asda pick a bag of sugar up walk out the shop take it home
then if i like it go and pay for it can I. the correct way is to have a
postage label sent to me and then i send it back, I was so suppressed that
when i contacted the seller about the item in the first place they
instantly refunded me. but then to get a message 13 days later asking if i
had sent it back that surprised me as I looked all over the sale and refund
request for a return label and there was nothing, I was actually going to
donate this item to a charity shop this weekend, but now they want it back
and for me to pay the return postage.

Re: reurn and item after the case is closed and a refund was given.

As ebay case is closed, this is now between you & seller.

If you post item back, you have to rely on seller refunding postage,

same as if seller sent you money, he has to rely on you posting item back.

It would be better for seller to buy postage label from carrier & send it or link to print to you.
