As per listing it was made clear the item was UNTESTED also SOLD AS SEEN. NOT ONLY DID HE RECEIVE A FREE TEST TAPE RECORDED ON THE MACHINE as that was all i could test. i SENT A CALABTION TAPE AT MY COST ,as it was forgotten in the original package. He also got £200.00 of the list price. i think this it very unfair
to just refund willy nilly.

Just to be clear, you are writing to other Ebay buyers and sellers in this forum, not 'Ebay'.
Although your post is a little short on detail, I assume your buyer opened a return because the item did not work.
You cannot use 'sold as seen' when you sell online for the very simple reason that the buyer has not seen it.
Whatever you subsequently stated in the description, you sold the item as 'Used' - the Ebay definition of a used item is one that works properly: 'An item that has been previously used. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or an item that has been returned to the seller after a period of use. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.'
What has happened so far?
Have you provided a return label and got the item back?
If Ebay has refunded the buyer without return, they are not obliged (according to Ebay) to send it back to you.

The recorder was listed as used so a buyer can dispute the condition if it doesn't work when received via buyer protection.Most cases go in a buyers favour if the item was paid for via ebay checkout

No point arguing, you will lose.
Issue returns label through case and refund in full on return.
If you refuse,ignore or don't take action within 3 days of case opening,
Buyer can escalate to ebay, they will force refund and buyer keeps item.
