If the item was sent via Simple Delivery and your buyer opened an eBay arrived damaged claim, then eBay make the refund, you should be keeping the payment.
Can you just confirm that SD in your opening post stands for Simple Delivery and that you didn't use your own Royal Mail Special Delivery label?

Hi yes it was on simple delivery
On my statement it has the original sale with money coming in, then there is the refund with money going out so I can’t see how eBay have given me any funds

As with anything refunded by eBay it's not instant.
Hopefully, the buyer stated damaged in transit and not ' item not as described' in the case details, then eBay refund the buyer and at some near future, later date, refund your payment.
Though must admit, I always thought payment was ' kept' ,no need for eBay to refund you, as they refund automatically when it's a Simple Delivery transaction BUT depending on the reason for the refund, which makes me think, the buyer opened a case for item not as described, citing faulty or doesn't match photos / description?

Can you confirm that the reason the buyer selected for the return was 'Arrived damaged' and not a different reason?

I did ask him to open a damaged claim but looking at the order now it just says eBay took care of this! Not very clear

Buyer did send a photo to me before starting a case. Hard to see now as the refund details just says eBay took care of it.
