eBay Buyer’s Protection Fee is a Seller’s Fee.

I accepted an offer as a private seller of £65 for some curtains I was selling but I only received £61.81 from eBay. I am told this was because the ‘buyer’s protection fee’ was deducted. How can this be a ‘buyer’s protection fee’ when it is I, the seller, that has lost £3.19?
Why isn’t the ‘buyer’s protection fee’ added on top rather than taken away from the seller?

I think it's a programming error.

I'll raise it with eBay.

Buyers see total price including buyers fee.

They may not be aware about new fee.

So if they offer £65 and you accept, this what they pay,

You get the lower amount.

It should make it clear that if you are accepting £65, you won't actually be getting £65 though!

The BPF is nothing at all to do with sellers.

@double_o_heaven

I agree, new buyers fee is not made clear to buyers or sellers.
