eBay have effectively bricked the eBay app for phones over a certain age, with the "this version is no longer supported. Please update to the latest version" message. As far as I can tell, there was zero warning that this change was about to happen. That is absolutely shocking customer service on eBay's part, and shows a blatant disregard and borderline contempt for its users. The cut-out-and-paste standard response that they are giving to users facing this problem really doesn't cut it.
I really hope eBay reverses this change, or at the very least give older phone users a "lite" version of the app or something, if older phones "don't support the latest features" etc, but I won't hold my breath...

How many of the millions of ebay users do you think
a) have old phones, and
b) used the app on them?

I don't have access to the stats on the userbase, as that type of data will rightly be hidden away on eBay's secure servers. Judging by the number of messages of people complaining about the same issue, the numbers of people facing the issue isn't insignificant.

I think ebay will see the numbers as insignificant, especially as there are other ways to access the site.
You can also delete the app and access ebay through the mobile site.

Yes I saw this, doesn't really help unfortunately. But my original point stands, they should have mentioned beforehand that they were bricking the app for older phone users, instead of just going ahead and doing it and then mentioning it.

Accessing it via a browser doesn't really provide the same functionality which app users have previously used, such as providing notifications for items ending soon etc.
But as I mentioned, it doesn't really excuse that eBay provided no warning that this was going to happen, instead just bricking the app for such users and expecting said users to just scramble with getting an alternative sorted out.
