I’m sharing my recent experience with an unexplained account restriction on eBay, in hopes of getting clarification and highlighting a broader concern.
My account was suddenly restricted from selling and buying without any prior warning or explanation. When I contacted eBay support for clarification, I was initially told there was “nothing to worry about,” but moments later I was informed that the account could not be reinstated and that I would no longer be able to use the platform for selling. No specific reason was provided.
After being effectively removed from the marketplace, I was still asked to pay outstanding selling fees. In my conversation with support, I made it clear that it’s unreasonable to request payment for a service I am barred from using, especially when the restriction itself was never explained. The response I received offered no further guidance or justification.
The key concerns are:
Lack of Transparency: The account was restricted without any clear reason or communication.
Service Denial Without Cause: Being told the account cannot be reinstated while still being asked to pay fees is contradictory and unfair.
Minimal Sales Activity: With very low activity and visibility on the account, the restriction appears disproportionate and unjustified.
I’m posting here to request that eBay provide:
A clear explanation for the restriction.
A reassessment of the fees being charged now that selling access has been revoked.
Transparency and fair treatment are essential to maintaining trust on the platform, and I hope this matter receives proper attention.

You are speaking to members like yourself, eBay do not come to this forum.
eBay usually send messages explaining any vital issues which need addressing before placing a permanent restriction on accounts.
You mention unpaid fees? Was this a long standing matter? That is, if fees were not paid for a long time , this could lead to a restriction.
eBay Customer Services will not discuss any restriction in any detail, but will just direct you to any message sent and give no further information, when a decision is final.
Bottom line is, if you have received a permanent or indefinite restriction this means a lifetime ban, there's no coming back from this. If there are outstanding fees these must be paid, as eBay do use debt collectors.

Surely if ebay are asking for fees they are for a service you have already used? If so, they are legitimately owed and you can't withhold payment.
