custom postage for private seller

Hello,

as a private seller, when I create a listing for a low value item that is 'letter size', the option for custom postage appears (again).

Please can someone tell me how his works?

Is it the same as before simple delivery, in that I buy the postage how I want to and do not have to buy a label via ebay?

I don't want to select it without knowing how ebay have set it up as I recently lost £3.45 via an ebay label that was somehow sold to me on the old system and although it was unused, it wasn't refunded.

Thanks for your help.

If you select custom postage it means you can go back to how it was and buy your own postage wherever you like.

Basically Custom Postage option only appears if it is a category that is exempt from using Simple Delivery.

Being their usual unhelpful attitude, ebay does not provide a list of exempt categories, or exactly what sort of things are included, but if you have something which you think should be excluded, it is worth playing with the categories to see what happens. Frequently a category if described as “other” will work, but trying to be too precise it will not.

Alternatively as categories no longer show on listing pages, if you see a similar listing to something you have and postage looks normal, for example under £2, use the “List Similar”, and you can then see the category being used.
