I have recently tried to sell an item and have posted it to the seller, they never received it and a case was opened and closed, making me lose the sell, will I get my ‘sold’ item back?
Assuming you used Simple Delivery ebay covers sellers for loss or damage in transit. So if the buyer opened a "not received" case ebay will have issued the refund themselves and you keep the payment. Therefore you still have the value of the item. The item may eventually turn up either with the buyer or back with you. It's impossible to say.
