My son is selling a diving item for over £500 when will he get paid to know the buyer is genuine?

If the item sells, there will be 2 emails from Ebay to your son's registered email address.

One confirms the sale and one conffirms payment.

Looking in 'orders' when logged into Ebay, you can also see if items have been paid for or not.

New sellers, particularly if they sell high value items can be subject to payment holds of up to 30 days before funds are released to them and of course your son does have to regisater his bank account and link it to his Ebay account.

 Being paid doesn't meen that a buyer is genuine.

Both eBay and PayPal allow buyers 30 days in which to claim that an item is not as described. If they do, it means an almost automatic refund with the seller having to send the buyer a prepid return label (if claimed through eBay).

The risks for sellers don't end after 30 days. If the buyer funded the payment with a debit or credit card they can file a chargeback months after the sale. Or if the buyer paid by Paypal, they have 180 days in which to claim that it didn't arrive. So tell your son to keep his tracking numbers safe for at least six or preferably 12 months, as without this the buyer will again almost automatically be awarded a full refund.

Selling on eBay is a very risky way to sell tings.
