I purchased a valuable coin recently which when it arrived yesterday is significantly not as described.
Within a few hours a returns case was opened through eBay and after several stroppy messages from the seller accusing me of not reading the listing properly (I did, the item simply was not what he claimed it to be) the return was authorised.
The returns label appears to be a system-generated one and was for the Royal Mail Tracked 48 service, which only covers items upto £150.
As the coins value is considerably more than this it would not be safe to return it via this method and so I contacted the seller who said that he would supply a revised Special Delivery label , which was the service used to deliver the coin in the first place...
I had expected this to arrive fairly quickly online but almost 24hrs have elapsed and still no revised returns label.
I contacted eBay customer services earlier and they told me that should the revised label not arrive within 3 business days to use the original shipping label as once the package was posted and scanned into Royal Mail system it wasn't my problem!
Tonight I messaged the seller asking if the label had been done and he now claims that he has sent the label to me via the post?
I can only presume that he has bought the label online , and if so why not send it via eBay?
What I'm trying to find out is if the label does actually arrive in the post, will it be safe to post back the item in order to get a refund?
I thought that the tracking number would have to be the one known to eBay so that they can monitor if delivery has been attempted etc.....
Would be very grateful for any advice, thanks!

Being curious about how to get the tracking number of the revised returns label into eBay have just gone into the item within my account and it appears that there is no way to upload a different tracking number.....
eBay are expecting the item to be posted back to the seller using the number on their system and presumably they are notified once the item has been posted at a Post Office....
So by the look of it , if the seller really has sent me a label in the post (to be honest I'm not sure I believe this) then it appears that I have no way to upload the tracking info to eBay?
It looks as if I wouldn't be able to prove that the item has been posted/returned.....
Think that I will have to contact customer services again.....

Thanks, I rang eBay this morning and they confirmed that I should ring them up once the new returns label arrives and they will update the tracking number on their system.
