What has happened to eBay?

Since 2009, I have been a committed eBay member, active both as a seller and as a buyer. For 16 years I have maintained a 100 percent positive feedback record, which I believe demonstrates not only my integrity but also my consistent commitment to fair dealing and honesty on this platform. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have led me to conclude that eBay has become a fatigued and increasingly dysfunctional marketplace. What once operated as a trusted community for buyers and sellers alike now feels like a system that is failing, and failing quickly.

One of the most concerning issues is the lack of adequate customer support. Recently, I had to wait fifty-five minutes before even receiving a response from an eBay representative. That is not a minor inconvenience; it is symptomatic of a platform that no longer values its long standing members. When contact is finally made, the quality of the support is inconsistent at best, with agents either unwilling or unable to address valid concerns. My case in particular has highlighted this problem in a very clear way.

Despite providing validated evidence and truthful feedback, I was astonished to see that my comments were removed. The purpose of feedback is to protect the community by warning others about dishonest or irresponsible behavior. Yet in my situation, my fair and accurate remarks were erased, while the buyer who in reality acted as a seller of damaged goods was allowed to keep their statement intact. This completely undermines the credibility of the feedback system, which is supposed to be one of eBay’s core protections.

The result is a process that feels both unfair and one---sided. Instead of encouraging transparency and accountability, eBay’s current approach seems to silence honest members while giving undue leeway to those who have clearly acted improperly. I cannot overstate how disheartening this is for someone who has been loyal to the platform for over sixteen years.

I intend to take this matter further. I will be writing directly to eBay’s head office to provide a full synopsis of my experience, including detailed transcripts and live recordings of the customer support interactions. My hope is that by presenting these materials, eBay’s leadership will be forced to reflect on the conduct of their agents and the failing structures within their support system.

In my view, unless decisive improvements are made, eBay’s decline will only accelerate. What was once the leading global marketplace is now showing unmistakable signs of fatigue, neglect, and systemic failure.

It's time that I no longer have any connection with this decaying platform!

For the avoidance of doubt, the feedback in question was entirely truthful, factually accurate, and did not, in any manner whatsoever, contravene or infringe any applicable eBay policy or guideline.

At this juncture, I am unable to provide further comment upon your post, as the feedback remains published and has not, as of the present time, been removed. The suggestion that such legitimate feedback should be subject to interference is, in my view, wholly improper and disgraceful.I will make a subject access request immediately which will reveal exactly what has happened.

"I was astonished to see that my comments were removed. " That is what you have written in your post, now you state it hasn't been removed I've bolded it in the quoted post.

There is no recent negative feedback left showing so i can assume eBay removed it inline with the feedback policy which as i stated says negative comments cannot be left on a positive rating for buyers.

You appear to be conflating the matter of the feedback that has been removed with that of the seller’s remaining feedback. I must respectfully request that you refrain from misquoting or reciting eBay’s feedback policies, as I am fully conversant with the relevant polices with all its provisions and details.

Sorry i misunderstood your post i thought this was feedback you left a buyer but now see that it is feedback you left a seller that has been removed and you want the feedback they have left removed from your account.

Have you tried appealing the decision not too remove it?

You can get a callback from eBay here https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5275&mkevt=1&mkpid and speak directly to them with your concerns and ask for its removal

What has happened to eBay?

The callback system is entirely ineffective for me. I have waited on numerous occasions for calls that never materialised. Out of sheer frustration, I have been forced to phone directly time and again, only to endure the same exhausting cycle of 20, 30, 40, even 50 minutes on hold. I have raised this issue no fewer than twelve times, yet there has been absolutely no resolution.

Hello magnatrading,

Thanks for your request to receive a call about your account magnatrading.

We tried to contact you, but weren't able to reach you at the phone number on file, because either:

  • The call was not answered
  • The call reached a voicemail
  • The call reached a busy signal
  • The number called was wrong or disconnected
  • eBay’s Customer Service phone number is blocked on your device
  • Spam filters enabled on your device blocked the call

We recommend you check the settings on your phone to ensure the call was not blocked. This can happen if you have activated spam filters on your device that automatically block unknown phone numbers. You can find more information on how to deactivate those settings in your device manufacturer support page, or contact your mobile carrier for assistance.

If you have any questions or concerns, we'll be happy to help you. Go to Help & Contact at the top of most eBay pages and sign in if prompted. Then, select Contact us. You'll be given the best option to reach us.

If you recently changed to another phone number, please update it in My eBay. To update your phone number in My eBay:

  1. Go to My eBay.
  2. From My eBay, select the Account tab.
  3. Select Personal information on the left side of the page.
  4. Select Edit next to the information you want to update.

Regards,

eBay Customer Service

My phone is always active the calls simply do not come through and the settings are correct 50 minutes plus is a disgrace simple as that!

I am fully conversant with the relevant polices with all its provisions and details.

I can't disagree with your overall assessment of what eBay has become, and it is shared by many users who post here. However, the fact is that eBay's share price has tripled in the last three years and is today at an all-time high. So nothing is likely to change any time soon.

eBay doesn't have a complaints procedure, and its policy on suggestions from users is that it doesn't accept suggestions from users. I think this tells us exactly what importance eBay attaches to users' concerns.

As regards eBay's feedback policies I'm afraid you are mistaken; no, you are not fully conversant with them.

Looking at some of the more recent other negs you have left, it is not allowed to mention an eBay case, neither is it allowed to leave negative feedback because sellers didn't leave you feedback. These too would have been removed if the sellers had reported your comments.

It doesn't help that eBay has removed the former limit on the length of feedback comments. The more buyers say, the more likely it is that they will say something that entitles the seller to have it removed. It happens all the time now!

This is an ebay member forum.

So we can only inform you of ebay policy.

What ebay allow in feedback is not clearly set out, we can only advise you of words that ebay don't seem to like, e.g. Refund.

As said, we don't always agree with these policies, but as Mentors we can't change it.

That’s fair enough, and I accept that the policy is as it stands. This post is intended to highlight what I believe are errors in eBay’s practices. Once my complaint has been fully resolved possibly not?, I will proceed to close my account.

Then why have you left insulting negative feedback because a seller did not leave you feedback?

Show me where this is? Or have you also got ''facts wrong''

''Then why have you left insulting negative feedback because a seller did not leave you feedback?''

Show me ''insulting negative feedback'' now please

Do not think for a moment that you will be permitted to make false accusations. This will not turn into a lynching, do you understand or shall I be clearer?

If you had actually read my response, you would have noticed the term ‘litigation.’ What exactly do you not understand about that?"
