I'm just wondering, is it normal to be being charged vat on top of the purchase price on all my recent purchases?

I'm in the UK , buying from the UK and having delivered to the UK.

If buying from private seller, you pay a buyer protection fee to ebay,

this includes VAT.

So you are paying VAT on BPF not the item.

Ebay confuse it by showing breakdown.

If VAT is definitely being charged on the item, not just the buyer protection fee, it's possible that although the items you bought are in the UK, the sellers are not.

Depending upon the price range, eBay may be required to collect VAT on the sale if the seller is abroad, even though the item itself is located in the UK.
