Suspended account

Hello eBay Community,

My son recently created an eBay account to sell some of the stuff he has at home while he's away at university.  I offered to help him organise shipping and collections.  He sold one item and as I was organising the shipping he got a message saying that his account was suspended.  He contacted eBay via the "call back" and he was told that his account was suspended permanently, eBay won't say why, there is no possible appeal and he will never be able to create an eBay account ever as it will be deleted immediately.  This seems a bit extreme to have no appeal and no recourse when he wasn't doing anything wrong or dishonest and there seems to be something wrong with the account suspension algorithm.  Do you know of any way he could contact eBay other than the Call Back to try to discuss the matter and possibly escalate to a more senior member of staff?

We are just other members like you.

As far as I am aware, a permanent suspension does mean exactly that.

Customer services staff are unable to discuss reasons with members which is obviously very frustrating.  There is no 'higher authority' to appeal to.

It is possible that, if your son opened his account from his term-time address, the IP address he used was one that had already been banned.

However, that is just a not very educated guess.

Hi Tressygirl, it was an electronic drum kit (Yamaha DTX500).

Hi jckl1957, thanks for your reply.  If it was due to an IP address being blacklisted, surely you would be allowed an appeal, no?  This must happen all the time in shared accommodations.

I did say it was just a guess.

It may be that he is somehow associated with another banned account.  (Another guess.)

However, there is no way of finding out why he has been banned.  There is no appeals process.

The 'good' news is that if it was the university address that led to the ban, your account is unlikely to be associated with his and also banned.
