Getting sick of ebay charging me vat on items I buy which are all listed in the UK ebay say this is because the seller has a business registered outside the UK surely if the seller is operating from a business in the UK and has stock I would assume the vat is already been paid . Now today I bought second hand item from a guy only an hours drive away and ebay charged me vat on the postage it's becoming a total scam. when the seller goes to post office if vat is due they would charge it this is not ebay place to be tax collector for the tax man grrrrrrrrrrr

Buyer premium includes VAT in the fee. 4% + 75p.
It confuses some by breaking it down.
If seller is registered outside UK, even if they have a warehouse here, you pay VAT on the item.

Just to add, if a seller uses Simple Delivery the postage the buyer buys from ebay includes VAT.

Because Tracked 24/48 prices includes VAT at the current rate of 20%. If you went to your local post office the receipt would show the same (eg the break down) All other services from Royal Mail are exempt of VAT.

If you check sellers feedback page, it will show their country of registration, it is not hidden.
If a business is VAT registered, they have to charge VAT, check almost any receipt from a retailer, e.g. Tesco,
It will show VAT amount on total bill.

all we see in listing is UK SELLER
I think you will find that what you are seeing is the location of the item, not the seller. They are not always the same.
I agree that it should be made equally clear if the seller is registered outside the UK. The item location is always shown, but sometimes you may have to view the seller's feedback page to discover the country in which they're registered.
