Some couriers do ask for this but if you're not comfortable giving out your details ask the seller to give their own to the courier.

Providing this information helps couriers to contact you about deliveries and let you know the expected delivery time. This does a lot to reduce the risk of missed deliveries and "no-one at home" cards being left instead.

I don't know where eBay says not to provide this information, but don't expect any help from eBay if there is nobody at home when delivery is attempted. eBay treats attempted delivery as being successfully delivered, so your purchase would not be covered by eBay's money back guarantee if you don't receive it.

We accepted this policy in the user agreement so it would be wise to cooperate with this request.

Seller wanting email and phone number for delivery

I was just concerned that eBay could suspend my account. The member to member contact policy on this page (https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/member-behaviour-policies/membertomember-contact-policy?id=4262) says  "We don't allow our members to:

  • Exchange any personal information (except names), including email addresses, phone numbers, payment information, social media links or accounts, or other contact information"

It's some years since I've sold on eBay, but I would have assumed the seller would get the contact details along with the address.

I bought from SueRyder in december and DPD couriers had my number to contact me without them asking. Is it that private sellers don't get phone numbers? Just curious

True, contact details cannot be exchanged Before a sale, afterwards you can,  but I would still make it clear in any eBay message to phrase it that you're making it Very clear you have purchased and paid for the item from the seller's eBay listing.

Or,  message the seller that on the order details for the item , on the right hand side, there's a little down arrow alongside Show Contact Information, and that will give the seller your phone number and email address.
