Seller cancelled order immediately after end of bidding

Won an item but almost immediately received notification from seller that sale had been cancelled for following reason;

"The seller cancelled this order due to the following: The item is out of stock or is damaged"

The item in question sold for an amount which I assume the seller was unhappy with. Is there any way to flag this up to ebay to let them know seller is abusing system - if they were expecting a minimum price, why not set a "reserve" price?

This is very bad selling and you're probably right,  that the seller did not receive the price they wanted at auction,  and more's the point,  does not know how to set an auction,  that is,  to start it for the lowest amount they are happy to receive,  then even with one bid, they cannot be disappointed with the outcome.

No one can force the seller to post a winning item.

Did you pay for the item?  Cancelling for out of stock reason, will refund you, and they will get a damaging defect on their account.  You can leave appropriate feedback, but do not mention any refund, that can be cause for removal of feedback,  just something like very disappointed seller did not honour the sale.

Thanks for the comment.

I didn't have time to pay for the item, the bidding finished and almost immediately the "cancelled order" notification was sent to me.

I think the only thing I can do is monitor the seller, and if the items comes up for sale again I can always ask the question "If it doesn't reach an acceptable price at end of bidding, will you be cancelling the sale again?"

Have fun!
