What is this new buyer protection tax?
ebay has always had buyer protection. If you claim your item hasn't arrived ebay will always issue a refund.
I don't understand why almost all of my items have been increased in price by about 50%. Ive had hardly any sales for a month now because of this ebay scam

BP is 4% of price + 75p.
So for low value items like yours it pushes start price up.
Many don't like, but don't expect ebay to get rid of it.

As you say, selling it as something new is a joke.
Sellers do not like it and buyers do not like it, but doubt it will be changed.
Of course it does only apply to private sellers.

The new fees do not apply to business sellers. if you upgrade to a business account, your items will not be subject to the Buyer Protection Fee.
If you plan to sell casually, such as selling items you no longer want, a private account is the best option.
If you want to sell large quantities, if you have items that you've made or bought to resell or if you already have a business outside of eBay, you’ll need to register a business account.

As @jckl1957 mentions these changes are not applicable if you were actually correctly registered.
I seem to remember that you are actually a member of the PTS, and you did something last year with that Dad guy. I will have to check your website that I have bookmarked.
Infact by being incorrectly registered, you are depriving yourself of having the PTS shield against all of your listings.
