What reason did you return the item? and if the seller sent you a return label did you open an eBay case to make the return? Eg Item not as described or faulty etc or was the communication between the two of you to arrange the return. We really need to know this to advise accurately.
If you were within the 30 day eBay MBG period and you opened a case via ebay did you ensure the tracking was uploaded in to the system so ebay can see the return has been delivered? IF you didn't you need to speak to them to get the tracking number updated.
If you didn't open a case then the matter is between the two of you, as ebay will have no knowledge of the return and the reason etc. Was the seller a registered business user in the UK?

The key thing is whether you opened a return case through Ebay and did the seller supply that return label through the case?
If you opened a return through Ebay, you need to go back to the case, make sure you added the tracking when you sent the item back and, if tracking shows delivery back to the seller, then ask Ebay to step in.
If you didn't open a case, and the seller is claiming they haven't had the item back, then you may be able to get some help from your payment provider if you have proof the item has been returned but you have not had a refund.
