Ask buyer to open ebay case for "Damaged in transit"

Ebay should refund buyer and you keep money.

Re: Refund

The items this seller sells are not eligible for Simple Delivery.

If the buyer opens a case, then you have to resolve it with the buyer and refund them.

You will then have to try and make a claim against Evri.

Re: Refund

Why is SD not eligible?

Re: Refund

I don't know.

SD is not shown on the sold or current listings so I tried a 'sell one the same' test listing and it said the listing wasn't eligible.

The costume jewellery I mainly sell is not eligible either.  Neither are hats.

Random?!

Re: Refund

could it be because they are a business seller trading as a private seller?

Re: Refund

I have looked at a few other 'private' sellers and products like hair conditioner just don't seem to be eligible for SD.

I started a listing in 'Haircare and styling' and got this:

Domestic postage

Simple Delivery is unavailable for this item. Learn more

I ignored the 'All new" items.

Buyer can still  open damaged in transit case,

Ebay will either refund themselves or tell seller to do it.

True, but on eBay it's not whose fault it is that counts - it's who is liable for refunding the buyer.

If you had been able to use eBay's simple delivery, eBay would have refunded the buyer.

As you sent it yourself, you will be required to refund the buyer. As buyers now pay through eBay, your buyer needs to start by opening a case under eBay's money back guarantee. You then accept the case and eBay will refund the buyer., and charge this to your account. (If you want the broken item back you need to send the buyer a prepaid return label.)

You can make a claim to Royal Mail or the courier for whatever compensation is available, which will depend upon the conditions of the delivery service.
