Refund postage using eBay simple delivery

I have a buyer who has paid for three items and wants them sent to the same address and wants them all packaged up in one item to save costs - perfectly reasonable.  He has already paid for each item and the postage. If I refund the postage on two of the items does that mean I lose out? He hasn't paid me he has paid eBay surely the refund should come from eBay simple delivery and not from me? Can anyone advise please.

You issue the partial refund by clicking on Send Refund via the dropdown menu arrow for the items on your orders page.   On the next page you can change the amount before you submit.    It will come out of the buyer's payment.

Thanks that is really useful, I am new to this game!  If the postage is £2.45 and the VAT is 49p do I ask for a refund of £2.45 or £2.94? Thanks

With Simple Delivery you will lose out.

The buyer pays eBay for the label so you have nothing to refund from.

Below is taken from the Simple Delivery guidance page, look under Fees & Charges

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/posting-items/setting-postage-options/simple-delivery?id=5575

Unless you've offered free postage, your buyer is charged for the delivery cost at checkout and the amount is then paid to eBay for the label. If you decide not to use the prepaid label, you'll need to purchase your own label instead at your own cost.

Where does VAT come into it. You refund the amount the buyer has overpaid by paying three lots of postage, add the three amounts together and deduct what it actually cost you to post.
