Product re call

Received an email that explains an electrical item I purchased has been re called. The item actually catches fire. I’ve tried to contact the seller who isn’t replying to my messages and I’ve also spoken with eBay who have said they can’t help. Any ideas how I can get a refund? Thank you

You probably won't be able to get a refund.

Ebay have informed you of the issue but only accept claims for refunds within 30 days of purchase.

If you bought from a UK business seller, Citizens Advice may be able to suggest 'next steps'.

When this lke this go wrong, it brings home that buying fron unknown sellers on ebay is not like buying from the shops.

If the seller doesn't want to know I agree that you will probably have to bin it. There's a possibility that your payment provider may be able to help - I don't know where they stand on recalls.

I imagine that this is just a small electrical item and not worth the hassle and expense of further action. If you paid by credit card, from a UK busness seller and it was over £100, it would certainly be worth contacting your card issuer about a possible claim under Section 75 of the consumer credit act.

Buyers can't complain too loudly if items bought on eBay prove to be faulty or even dangerous. eBay does warn buyers in the user agreement that they do not guarantee that descriptions will be truthful or that items will even be safe or legal. Would you have bought from a shop that stated this? You knew the risks of buying here.
