Potential scammer bidding on one of my auctions

Hi.

I'm currently selling a used expensive tablet with the auction ending tomorrow night .

The bidder currently winning has 0 feedback and joined Ebay in April 2025. They made their high bid a few days ago.

Everyone starts with 0 feedback so could be genuine buyer, but as I've had problems in the past selling these kind of items with new members I contacted them with my concerns just to ask them if they were serious about the sale.

They replied saying yes, they are a serious bidder and they only have a new Ebay account as they can't access their old Ebay account after changing telephone number.

If you change a telephone number or even an address, surly you would be able to get help from Ebay accessing your account right ?

Should I cancel their bid or just wait to see if they win the auction and pay?

Cheers

It's easy to open a new eBay account, so impossible to say.

As Vy says it’s easy to open new account and they may have had to do if they had no access to old phone number and needed it to pass login security.

I am afraid that asking a member whether they are a genuine bidder, is hardly proof of anything. A scammer is not going to admit to not being genuine.

This is a risk you take, any scam would be either trying to get you to post without payment, or claiming not as described to get a refund, and not returning the original article.
