Why am I paying the postage for an item I'm selling when the buyer has paid for postage. Do I get this refunded?

The buyer pays you a total of item price and postage and you pay for postage from that.

Do I get paid for the postage of the item as its come out of my own money

If you're using ebay's Simple Delivery, as most people are having to by now, the buyer pays for the pre-paid postage label which you download from ebay.   If you're buying postage on top of that the cost is coming from your own pocket.
