Hi. New to Ebay. Have just sold a couple of items in the last fortnight. One of the items (fortunately low value) has not been delivered. Sent via Evri and bought through Ebay. I would like to know what people do in this situation with anything of any value around £100-£200? What postage option do you go for? I have read that Royal Mail want proof of purchase which I simply don't have when I have bought items as a job lot. I also sell on Vinted and when a parcel has been lost by the courier both the buyer and the seller are compensated for the full amount of the sale. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I avoid Evri and use Royal Mail Tracked 48 which covers loss or damage up to £150. I don't buy it via ebay. Just at my post office.
For compensation for postage bought via ebay you can claim here:
All couriers want proof of original value, rather than ebay price.

Do you have any advice on the postage query?

Thank you, that's helpful to note. How do you provide proof of original value if you bought the item years ago and don't have the receipt anymore. Alot of my items are in this category, clothing mainly and I don't keep receipts for longer than 6 months or so also true with gifted items you wouldn't have any receipts. Do people just accept the loss then?

That is very generous of Vinted, it should be up to you to claim from Evri, although they only cover up to £20.
Are you sure about vinted refunding buyer and seller, seems to me a license to make money.
Reading about their lost items, there are strict times for making claims and verification of loss required, but no mention of refund to seller who should claim on Courier which would appear to allow seller two refunds.

Luckily I haven't had many lost items over the years. I've always used RM and although they're not what they used to be I do think they're more reliable than couriers like Evri. The couple of times I've claimed (without any original proof of value) I've received a book of stamps! Better than nothing. I just had to accept that as part of selling on ebay.

No, this is correct. I have had several parcels undelivered and declared lost by Evri and yes Vinted refund the buyer and the seller. All the postage is bought via vinted by the buyer. The seller doesn't purchase the postage at all. I have always raised an issue with Evri and they look into it, try and locate the parcel and if not declare it lost. There is a wait of around 28 days and then Vinted also refund the seller the price they sold the item for. It is different as the buyer always purchases the label/postage from Vinted not the seller so the claim isn't with the seller. I have never claimed from Evri as I have never bought postage as a seller so can't claim.I have just raised an issue with them that the parcel has not arrived. I have claimed from Vinted as the parcel postage has come from them. I guess the contract is between Vinted/Buyer & Courier. Hope that makes sense.

Whether you’re a standard or Pro seller, you can get compensation on Vinted when shipping with a prepaid Vinted-generated shipping label if your parcel is confirmed lost or damaged by the shipping provider. The maximum compensation limit is £500.
I've taken this directly from Vinted Help pages. This is why I asked about the compensation for lost parcels on Ebay as it is only £20 which doesn't cover much at all.

You can't compare ebay and vinted.
Completely different refund system.
RM accept copy of ebay listing as value of claim for private sellers.
Main issue with buying postage through packlink is limited compensation.

Thank you for your reply. I wasn't trying to compare the 2 platforms as such. I am just trying to get the hang of Ebay as a new seller as they are very different. Evri and Yodel both loose parcels from time to time and I wanted to know what people do on Ebay when this happens, as loosing an item worth £150 for instance isn't great when the compensation is £20. I think I will stick to uploading items below £25 on Ebay going forward. Thank you for your help though.

If you really want to use evri or yodel, buy direct from their website with correct compensation level.
You don't have to buy from packlink.

Does that mean selecting 'seller pays postage' when uploading an item?

Sellers always pay postage.
Buyer pays sold price and postage as listed,
You use this money to buy postage from where you wish.
