Postage abroad

I am trying to list an item where potentially I will send it abroad from UK. The options EBAY give for postage are limited to 6. None of them offer compensation.  The item will be worth around £150. When I try to put £20 , as that's what postage will cost including insurance etc, ebay message saying that £9.50 is the maximum I can charge. Why the restrictions?

you will have to add any extra onto your item price.
