Only given a partial refund

I am sure this is not legal, I purchased an item that only worked for a few weeks.  The seller offered me £3, althought that was a fraction of what I paid.  However, I returned the item with a picture requesting a full refund and the seller fraudulently claimed that the item was not returned in it's orginal condition, which is untrue.  The seller is clearly from abroad i.e. not the UK, but I am sure this is an infringement of my rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The product was not fit for purpose, and I have been left out of pocket.

Did you open ebay case and return item through it?

If so, escalate to ebay to sort.

Ebay does allow business sellers to deduct up to 50% from refunds if the item is not returned in the original condition.

If you are not happy with the refund you have received, you may need to discuss it with Ebay.
