Notification of product safety concerns via eBay

I received on 21/11/2025 a notification from eBay about a product recall or the product posed a safety hazard. The recommendation by eBay is to stop using the product.

eBay list the item as:-

"This item has been reported by UK Trading Standards for not being compliant under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008.

If you have any problems, we recommend that you contact the seller from your Purchase history and try to reach a resolution.

Item details: 394846124019 - VEVOR Lever Block Chain Hoist G80 Ratchet Hoist 1650-13200lb Capacity 5/10/20 ft"

I have contacted the seller VEVOR and they have supplied a certification certificate from Beide (a certification lab) which states the product conforms to the EU machinery standards. Given this product is able to lift up to 6 metric tonnes, it is not something you want to have issues with.

I have also checked on the UK Govt OPSS website (link below) and the VEVOR website and there is no record of any issue with this particular product.

I am attempting to locate the source of the message within eBay, however, the live chat is constantly down  and the automated agent is not capable of addressing this type of question. I assume an employee or dept within eBay would have to manually generate the notification and verify the issue prior to sending to affected customers?

How do I contact the actual department within eBay to ascertain the product safety issue source?

I don't particularly want to go down the Citizen's Advice route at this stage, until I have hard evidence from eBay where the product safety issue source came from, especially given the OPSS and VEVOR do not actually acknowledge there is an issue.

Many thanks for your assistance,

Ebay are known for tarring unrelated items with the same brush as a specifically recalled item.  This has happened before with other items such as hoists and jacks.

It is highly likely your item is safe.

They won't provide you with any more information.

Re: Notification of product safety concerns via eBay

Ok, that's good to know how eBay approaches these issues generically. I have never seen a safety notice before.

In theory, eBay should provide all the supporting documentation to ensure the buyer and the seller are fully aware of the issues. Otherwise it leads to a case of product category "tarring" as you outline.

VEVOR have been very supportive and certainly spent a great deal of time, reviewing and providing the required documentation to prove their products are certified.

Many thanks for your assistance.
