New EBay charges from 4th February ?

Just received a message indicating that from 4th February it appears that (as a prolific buyer of items from EBay) I’m now going to be paying MORE for my purchases with their fees etc, compared to the same-priced items currently on sale from sellers. Is this correct ?? (i.e. an item priced say £20 costs currently £20….but from 4th February it appears it will cost £20 + additional fees etc ???) I’m astonished if this is true. What is wrong with the current system ? How will eBay know that I’ve received an item? (are they SERIOUSLY expecting me to contact them directly every single time ??? Please can someone explain and advise about this issue. Seems unnecessary and shambolic if true. Thanks.

This affects private selllers only,so not Business account holders.

Ebay will add the buyer (protection) payment amount to the listing once the seller has done the listing.

This is an example:

Item price set by the seller
£20
Buyer Protection fee variable (4% of £20)
£0.80
Buyer Protection flat fee
£0.75
Price that buyer sees for the listing
£21.55 + postage

Item price set by the seller
£500
Buyer Protection fee variable (4% of £300, + 2% of £200)
£16.00
Buyer Protection flat fee
£0.75
Price that buyer sees for the listing
£516.75 + postage

We’ve made it free to sell for private sellers, so it’s easier than ever for more sellers to bring you a wider variety of things you love. To support this change, we will charge a buyer fee to cover Buyer Protection services and ensure a trusted experience when purchasing items from private sellers. For listings by business sellers, Buyer Protection is added at no extra cost.

Items will be required to be sent tracked to show delivery.Buyer protection will cover buyers in the event items are not delivered.
