Item broken in transit when it was returned

Hi!

I sold a ceramic item to a customer.

The customer received the item and wished to return it as a misleading word in my listing made her think it was something else.
No problem , she could return it - no questions asked!
On the picture she used on the "return request" the item was in the same condition that I sent it in (good and unbroken), and she reported the "return reason" as Doesn't match description or photos, so it was clearly not broken in transit to the customer in the first place.

She returned the plate in the same box as it was delivered and with the same packing material as it was originally shipped with (Bubble wrap and shock absorbing void filling), however, the void filling was all on top of the plate, so there would have been a chance of breakage if/when dropped/thrown by Royal Mail.

When i received the plate it was in several pieces and therefor of course only directly for the bin.

Ebays guidelines say "35-50% deduction for unsellable items", but the biggest question here is actually shouldn't it be covered by Royal Mail?
If so, who should claim? Would it be myself as the original shipper?
If I can claim, should I then refund 100%?

Thanks a lot !

RM are not responsible if it was not packaged correctly by the buyer.
