Import Tax on purchases from abroad

Should EBay advise customers when a product is subject to import duty?

eBay obviously already advise you in their policy pages, see here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/taxes-import-charges?id=4121

If the item is under £135 ebay will generally collect vat at checkout which is clearly detailed. If a larger cost item then as a buyer its your responsibility to ensure any additional fees are paid.

All UK buyers should be aware that if they buy an item from outside the UK, or from a seller who is registered outside the UK, they'll be charged import fees. This applies to all purchases, not just eBay ones.

These are nothing to do with eBay or their sellers, import taxes are set by our very own HMRC.
