I would like to purchase an item from a UK seller, but even though overseas are set as an available shipping destination, I am still unable to complete the purchase.

There is sometimes a problem with eBay's Global Shipping Programme.    If that is a possibility if the seller is willing ask them to opt out of GSP in their postage preferences.    You can send them this link:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/ship/prf

Then they can relist with direct postage to Japan on the listing.    If they use Royal Mail they can look up postage prices on their website.   They will need World Zone 1.
