I bought an item at sellers price. After I check out and purchased the item, I was informed by email (despite saying FREE DELIVERY) I have to pay an extra £40.00 delivery charge in my item It did not state this at time of purchase. I wonder if scam ? I have no issue to pay but just want to ensure its not a scam sending my bank details.

Who is asking for this delivery charge, the seller? Then, no you do not pay any extra money than that paid at eBay checkout for the item, to the seller.
Is the item coming from abroad? If it's a custom charge, then that's a different matter, but this is not paid to the seller either.

Without knowing what you have bought and who from it's hard to help. We don't even know whether the seller paid for the postage, or it was sent using eBay's new simple delivery.
Sellers (or eBay) can't normally add a charge to "free" delivery, but there are some situations where there may be more to pay.
If either the item or the seller was outside the UK, 20% VAT and possibly import duties will be payable.
If from abroad, there may also be a currency conversion charge.
If you live in a remote area, couriers will often surcharge for delivery. It's reasonable for sellers to pass this on, but this should have been stated in the listing.

Don't send your bank details, you pay for your order via eBay checkout.
Or have you bought an item from an international seller?
Is it over £135?
