How to refund buyer without being charged high listing fee

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for some advice regarding a recent situation. I had an item listed on eBay, but it was sold outside of eBay before an order came through on the platform. Unfortunately, a buyer purchased the item on eBay after it was already gone. I explained the situation to the buyer, and they were very understanding and happy to cancel.

However, when I try to refund, eBay is trying to charge me a very high listing fee (around £1,123). I only want to refund the full amount to the buyer, but I’m not willing to pay such a large fee in the process, especially since the item was no longer available.

Could someone please advise on the correct way to process the refund/cancellation so the buyer is fully refunded and I’m not charged these excessive fees?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Listing fees are never refunded.

You pay it wether item sells or not.

You are lucky you didn't pay more fees, ebay used to charge FVF if you ended listing with bids or sold.

You are not allowed to sell something outside ebay if it is advertised on ebay.  Your first buyer should have bought from the listing.
