I have had a failed purchase, a scammer. I requested to cancel the order and got refused by ebay, saying I needed to give it a few more days. Those days have gone and now I can't raise the problem again!
The Item Not Arrived option just says I can't do it because I have already raised a case.
The two routes through customer service don't recognise the order or listing numbers.
Absolute *bleep* ebay
Haven't used ebay for years, I should have stayed away

You have 30 days from estimated delivery date to open an official 'Item not received' case below --- follow the instructions carefully and escalate to eBay on day 4 for their assistance >

@fargvs thanks for the reply. Annoying as Ebay advised that on day 3 I could get further assistance. I'll give it a couple more days but the constant going around in circles without reasonable explanation is so frustrating.
Thanks again

Opening a case for item not received gives the seller 3 days exactly , to reply either with a tracking number showing delivery, or a refund for you.
Those 3 days are timed to the second from when you opened the case, so you may be looking a little too early to be able to escalate the case, ask eBay to step in, and they then force the refund.
Best to look for the escalation option on day 4.

Thanks for the replies. The trouble I am still having is that I come back to the same point that the initial request to cancel was closed by ebay meaning that I cannot re open it. All routes seem to end at that point.

You can't cancel the order.
All you can do is open an eBay item not received claim (you'll be able to do this once the latest estimated delivery date showing on the order has passed), then wait 3 business days and then escalate it to ask eBay to step in.
