I currently have a vehicle listed spares or repairs. I have little idea of the value so it's an auction with a reserve. But I am getting continual 'how much to buy it now?' queries. What's the best way to deal with these please?

Reserves are expensive costing 4% of your set reserve payable sale or no sale, and in my humble opinion a waste of money, as you can just list your item for the lowest amount you are happy to receive, it cannot sell for less!
Seeing a reserve buyers do not know the amount you are wishing to accept , some may know the rule is the minimum is £50. You may well receive many messages asking what you wish to accept, as peeps don't wish to waste time bidding , when the item is going to be out of their price range.
If you receive a question you can answer with the lowest amount you are happy to receive for it. You may then get some interested parties!

Many thanks. I hadn't realised that. Perhaps I could reveal to people what my reserve is then they could bid or back away as they wish.

Yes, absolutely, reveal your reserve, and as you say, your buyers can then decide to bid or not.
Next time, just list it without a reserve but the lowest amount you are happy to receive, if it doesn't sell, and you add no other upgrades, there'll be nothing to pay.
In case you use any other upgrade, here are their listing fees charged immediately.
Add any of the following optional listing upgrades, and they all come with a non refundable listing fee.
This is payable sale or no sale and charged the second the item goes live.
Reserves: 4% of the set reserve ( maximum £150 per item)
Subtitles: £2
Listing in 2 categories: 35p
Gallery Plus: £2.50 ( free for clothes and shoes)
Listings with duration 1 - 3 days 35p
As a tip, before clicking on the final List Item With Displayed Fees button, glance just above it, it should read £0.00 Listing Fee.
If there is a fee amount listed there, you have selected an upgrade, and if you wish, it gives you time to scroll up and remove the payable upgrade.
