How do I report a scam seller?

Hi, I wanted to buy a piece of furniture from a business seller but realise from the profile, other items for sale etc that it is a scam seller- how do I report this? Thanks.

How do I report a scam seller?

You cannot as you have not experienced any scam.

Have you bought the item?  You are protected for a full refund if you don't receive it, or do and it's not as described.

You wisely looked at feedback first to avoid a bad seller.  If enough cases are opened,  feedback alone doesn't count as it could be left by competitors or disgruntled buyers, then eBay act with sanctions even total bans from selling.

There is a link in every listing to report it, but you will see from the choices provided that these mainly cover items that contravene eBay's own listing policies. Only the item can be reported, not the seller.

It's important to remember that almost anyone can sell almost anything on eBay. Buyers are warned in the user agreement that eBay does not review listings or their content or guarantee "the existence, quality, safety or legality of items advertised, or the truth or accuracy of descriptions".

Buyers can't say they were not warned. Buying from unknown sellers on eBay isn't like the shops. eBay is a jungle.

The important thing is for buyers to learn how they're protected under eBay's money back guarantee. Basically, for most items this gives them 30 days in which to claim a refund if they don't receive their item on time or it is not as described. From questions asked here, many buyers don't even bother to look at it.

How do I report a scam seller?

Thanks very much for your reply- all understood.
It does seem odd that a seller can have a permanent presence on eBay that is, with a little inspection, clearly fraudulent. It surprises me that something that is in plain sight isn’t addressed by the platform in order to clear out the junk.
I put a starting bid on a table which has now, apparently, been outbid- although the bid price hasn’t changed. I realised after bidding that the seller was bogus. My only concern is that the seller can do some form of reverse search to access my details- but that’s because I’m over 50 and don’t understand the internet! 😂
Thanks again.

Do not worry about the seller searching your details out they cannot do this, whilst your bidding.  No need for them to do this,  either.

If an identical bid is placed by another bidder,  then the bid price will not change.

As said,  feedback does not count to removing a seller from the site.  eBay work on cases.  Buyers are fully protected if they receive an item not as described if they open a case for this,  and it's those cases which matter not feedback, which can be left in error or from competitors.
