How do I refund buyer minus postage fee?

A buyer has returned an item as it does not fit.

It was sold as item price + postage.

Ebay is only letting me refund the entire cost, why can't I refund minus the postage? It has still cost me money to send the item to the buyer, it's not my fault they ordered the wrong size

All returns cost the seller money, but change of mind returns means buyer is also out of pocket.

Suggest you read the money back guarantee and be grateful, buyer did not open a not invent a reason for a not as described case when you would have had to provide a reply paid tracked label as well as a full refund.
