HMRC LETTER

Does anyone know what reports ebay have actually sent HMRC? I’ve got a letter just saying you may owe tax up to April 2023 from online market sales. I’m presume it’s ebay but I’m slightly in the dark as to what HMRC have received.

I can seem to find anything on ebay itself or my account. There’s no reports under the Tax section.
Any help would be appreciated. I’m not keen on porridge lol

Use the link to find your Digital sales report.

That report would only cover January to December 2024 - if HMRC are looking at you for a tax liability before that, it would not be based on information provided by Ebay.

It looks as if you have been selling multiple items such as 5 of these:

HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2 DisplayLink 4K USB3.0/HDMI + 120W PSU MAINS ADAPTOR

If you have genuinely been selling your own unwanted items, then you won't have any tax to pay.  If you have historically been trading, buying items to resell for a profit, without completing a self-assessment or paying tax, then you perhaps need to consult an accountant.

Hi.

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. The trouble is my wife uses my
account who’s a stay at home mum and sells bits and bobs on there to help
with the money side of the things. But the ebay is in my name. So looks
like I’m going to be responsible for it all.

HMRC has been able to get information from various sources for a long time.  It's only since last January 24 that it's been required by regulations and it's only since the regulations came in that you have the right to be told what HMRC has been told.
