HAVE BEEN A MEMBER OF EBAY FOR OVER 22YEARS. WANTED TO BUY A SMALL PRUNING GARDEN SAW.  EBAY WANTED MY AGE AND WOULD ONLY ACCEPT CREDIT CARD. I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE AND DO NOT WANT ONE. CANNOT GET THROUGH ON PHONE AND THE AUTOMATED SYSTEM IS RUBBISH. KEPT ANSWERING I AM LEARNING AS COULD NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS. . I SHALL LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE.  THEY KNOW MY AGE  ALL THEY NEEDED TO DO WAS CHECK ON THEIR SYSTEM. I DO UNDERSTAND KNIVES ETC SHOULD NOT BE SOLD TO UNDER AGED INDIVIDUALS, BUT  I AM NOW TREATED AS ONE,

Yep,  those are eBay's rules, they require a credit card on your eBay account,  if you wish to buy any ' bladed item', this the only proof they accept that you are over the age of 18.  Anyone of any age can own a debit card.

It also has another purpose.  With no credit card on your account,  this also shows hopefully ,  your responsibility for anyone in your household who may not be of 18 years + ,  to not be able to use your account to buy bladed items.

It not only covers yourself , but members of your household with access to your account.

I understand why now. But I don’t know why Ebay cannot check.  I could have provided proof with a birth certificate.   Everything seems to getting harder ,automated assistants. Apps for this and that. I am afraid I am of an older generation and cannot keep up with it all. But thank you .
