Global shipping wants GBP 269.55 (US $350.20) to send from UK to US

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong for eBay to be charging such a high fee for global shipping? It is just for a couple of small bullion rounds I am selling. Total packaged parcel weight would be about 300g-500g. The fee seems incredibly high, as pointed out by potential buyers.

In comparison, I was quoted outside of eBay only around £40-£50

is it gold or silver bullion? - i suspect it will be insurance for such an item, along with customs fees on the value.

Yes, and I kid you not - eBay is now quoting £600/$900 for Global shipping on a £1550 item. I can get international postage for £15 and private postage insurance for £15.50 (total £30.50) - how is eBay charging £600?
