Fraudulent seller

Bought an item on 28 Feb 2025.  Checked progress on 02 March, found the seller had been deregistered, and the item has not been dispatched. However a "new" seller selling the same range of items (Chanel Exclusif Perfumes) has popped up, new eBay ID, but using the exact same photos, background props, prices and offers as the deregistered seller.  Even their hand in the photos is the same. Obviously the same person.

I have cancelled the order but can't contact the original seller as they have now been "disappeared."

Have contacted eBay Helpline but the call got dropped and they haven't called back.

Bah!

The 28th was Friday, so it's unlikely that your item would have been posted before tomorrow, Monday.

It's possible that the seller will still do so, so I suggest waiting until after the  latest estimated delivery date in the listing. You can then try opening a case under eBay's money back guarantee, although if the seller is no longer a member you may not be able to open it yourself.

In that case, contact eBay customer support to ask them to open one for you. eBay's money back guarantee still applies, it's just that eBay may have to meet the cost instead of the seller. If eBay won't help please let us know.

Re: Fraudulent seller

It might not be the same seller,  as members are allowed to use other member's photos.  eBay can even use them for their library if they wish.

They can ask the owner of the photos for permission but it's not mandatory to do so, just polite in my humble opinion.

Re: Fraudulent seller

As you are the buyer, you cannot cancel an order, only seller can cancel. If seller has been removed by ebay, to get a refund you will probably need to contact ebay to open a not received case.

It is most unlikely that once removed by ebay, seller would be able to open a new ID, but not impossible that a completely unconnected person has opened an account.

Re: Fraudulent seller

Thank you for your advice.  Someone could use someone else's photos, but the exact same inventory, wording, prices and  offers? A brand new unconnected seller, hot on the heels of a deregistered one whose shop is no longer visible? The odds seem pretty long.

Thanks again.
