Bought a timing belt kit for £97.70, using £92.40 from my eBay balance and £5.30 via PayPal. The seller confirmed it would fit my vehicle, but it doesn't. Requested a refund, selecting "Item does not fit," but the seller closed the return and eBay says I chose the wrong option. Now, I can't appeal and eBay won't help. PayPal can only refund £5.30, and eBay says the rest isn't their problem.
Any advice on what to do next?

Unfortunately, selecting the reason 'does not fit' allows your seller to decline the return, you need to select one of the not as described reasons.
It's not possible to open another return for this order, but if you paid the £5.30 payment via PayPal with a debit or credit card you can issue a not as described chargeback via your card provider and get a full refund.

My frustration is, Ebay knows what the reason for the return is. Its in the records and in the conversations that I had with the seller prior to asking for a refund/ return. Yes I may have chosen a wrong button, that doesn't change the fact. I don't understand why would they take the right of appeal away??!!

I agree that ebay should remove the "does not fit" option, many are caught out by it.
Try your payment provider.

You might actually have had been lucky. Just last week we heard of a timing belt bought on eBay that was professionally fitted but broke days afterwards, causing expensive engine damage.
Personally I would never buy safety or performance critical car parts from an unknown seller on eBay. Wherever you decide to buy it, make sure that it isn't counterfeit or some unknown copy from China.
Unfortunately as you paid most of the cost from an eBay balance you have no further ways of claiming a refund.

I forgot that ebay funds mean no payment protection.
Another ebay negative.

So the purchase protection paid for the item was not worth anything? In essence
1. eBay kept my money to use at a later stage that I did
2. Charged me buyer protection for the money I could never get back
3. When it came to crunch time. Showed me the door.

Normally You have got purchase protection, but as you opened wrong type of case, ebay won't help.
