Fake Spark Plugs have written off my Car engine

So I bought some NGK spark plugs off ebay. They were the correct part No. and thought Id save myself a few quid. The spark plugs turned up late so missed the window it was in the garage.

When they turned up the gaps were all different so I contacted ebayer to confirm these were genuine products. They confirmed original product.

So I fitted them. 100 miles later one plug melted and became part of my engine causing over £6k of damage. I went to NGK head office and they confirmed they were a fake NGK plug and I have the report.

I realised I didn't have the sellers contact details and didn't want to alert them at this stage, so messaged saying these are fake could I have your address. They admitted there was an issue with quality from supplier.

I've now got their address but don't have a name or email address to issue small claims court. (I've tried land registry only to get a mans name I don't think is the seller)

My question I need their email address and Full name how can I get these details.

Is your seller a UK registered business seller?

You mentioned that they admitted that there was a quality issue with their supplier.

If so, their business contact details will be on their listings, just scroll down to them.

don't have a name or email address to issue small claims court.

Are they registered with eBay as a business seller, or a private seller?

If a business, their business name and address should be displayed in their listings. If it's a "proper" registered business I presume you've tried searching company records?

If they're a sole trader or one of eBay's many unregistered business sellers it's liable to be hard to get any info. on them. As long shot, try Google street view - there might be a trading name outside the premises. Or for the money involved it might be worth visiting in person.

I imagine you will take legal advice before going to court, but one question that's sure to arise is whether there's any realistic chance of receiving any damages you may be awarded. A reconnaissance visit may at least help you to assess what assets they're likely to have. Good luck anyway!

No they are a private seller. No business detail or name.

Then the seller was breaking a number of laws and you should seek legal advice.

Ebay will only give you the seller's details if a solicitor writes to them.
