Extremely high-priced coin listings

I noted a seller listing 4 coins at quite ludicrous prices, £10,000+ for scrap grade half crowns.
I made a polite enquiry but received no reply.
It has been suggested to me that shenanigans are afoot, money laundering and other such snide activity.
I found a few other sellers with similar outrageous asking prices for similar material, so I’m wondering if I’m missing some new ‘scam’ ?

Any enlightenment would be gratefully received.

Just because item is listed at high price does not mean it will sell or be paid for.

Some sellers believe media hype.

Re: Steelescollectables

How can there be a scam, when no one would buy at that price.

There are always silly prices being asked for items not worth much, but either seller like not selling or hopes it will bring in some views on other items.

I am afraid that anyone looking would just be out of curiosity to see what other daft prices seller has.

In the days of final value fees, there would even be a bid on the principle that seller would get stuck with a large fee for not being paid. Bidder just using an account, which would not cause a problem if they received an unpaid strike.
