Ebays auto payment issue

Hi all. I hope someone can assist as I've really had enough of Ebays auto-payment with offers.

I buy postcards, stamps and other small low value items. I often wish to buy multiple items for a seller, especially when they are happy to accept offers.

Is there a setting I can go to which when an offer is accepted, it will go to my basket rather than auto pay? which takes a postage charge for each item. Sellers who offer combined postage, or have come to an agreed price, then have to issue multiple refunds of small amounts.

Ebays auto payment issue

This was a system all sellers were opted into a few weeks ( months?) back now and to be fair none of us knew about it, and some may well still not know,  they have this option selected.  It was brought in to eliminate the many non payments  after offers were accepted.

It is an option,  but only for the seller to deselect,  or keep in operation.

All you can do if wishing to buy mulitples from one seller,  is to message them beforehand,  ask if they are opted in would they kindly ' opt out '  for you  so you can buy several items,  and buy altogether with the payment of your choice.

They can of course disagree,  but definitely worth asking beforehand,  before buying.

Ebays auto payment issue

Hi

Thank you for this answer, it is something I will have to keep in mind for future dealings. I had this problem today and the seller was very patient and we have eventually got to the right overall agreed costs, but only with the issuing of 4 refunds of 0.70p each.

A second concern though. I have not sold on ebay for a few years and don't remember issuing any refunds.

Is there a cost to the seller (ebay or paypal) for any refunds given this way?

There have been some big changes for sellers,  if you haven't sold on eBay for a few years.

PayPal is no longer involved in the receiving of payouts from sales,  eBay Manage Payments now.

All sellers have to register for this,  to be able to list items for sale,  and receive payouts from those sales.

This will explain what you need to do:

You need to provide eBay with details of a bank account and have this account verified.  The usual method here, is for eBay to send 2 micro deposits into that nominated bank account for you to receive,  and confirm to eBay.

Once this is completed,  you will be able to list items for sale,  and receive payouts from those sales.

This will show you how to register for eBay's Managed Payments.

There is no charge to the seller when refunding an item if a buyer opens a case,  you do as before,  that is,  fully refund all the buyer has initially paid,  so you may lose out on a postage cost, and have to pay the 30p eBay  ' admin' operating fee.

Another thank you, and I will direct the seller I worked with this morning to this reply. It looks like he's lost out £1.20p on a £12.35p sale.
