I realise that thousands of people have complained about the recent horrid changes to ebayuk since February 2025, it's been talked about not just on the ebay community forum here but also other forums and ebay.co.uk own facebook page under their pots.
ebay charging buyers a so called buyers protection fee that doesn't offer any different kind of protection since ebay started and had always been free, only those of us who have been with ebay a very long time would know that and know the policy of level of protection hasn't changed since day1. Many of us have figured out it's nonsense and it's put me off buying on ebay, I have spent more time looking on other selling platforms first to buy my stuff if needed, either by paypal payment only or cash on local pick up. so if i'm doing that it seems many others are as endless complaints across ebay facebook pages have been rolling in about lack of sales since the change.
So ok we know why all our sales are down either business on ebay or selling of privately household items no longer wanted. but also myself as a seller i am finding I can't offer postage items on because of high value or large/heavy parcel size and as ebay now keep all sellers payouts in advance including postage costs,
I can't afford to pay out postage costs on some items i'm selling, so can only offer local pick up, which is very restricting and feels ebay think you shuold be filthy rich and have a few hundreds pounds in savings to post an item out, and that is just uk, international postage costs are way more! and if your lucky enough to sell more than one item at one time then you've got to find those post costs to pay the courier. Yes ebay dot he simple delivery where you can opt the buyer pays the postage to ebay, but that's only for items up to £750 of small to medium size parcels!
What's the point of being paid postage costs to pay the courier if you don't get those costs back till 2 days after delivery? again according to ebay and their reply's to me were all suppose dot hvae great savings to pay the courier whilst we wait to get out money! I've had some people ask me if I will post one of my items out to their country so they cold afford the postage costs but because I haven't got that amount to pay the courier i can't offer postage on ebay only local pick up.
ebay was mentioned on bbc radio 4 about 2 months ago or so, and they stated what many of us had already in chats that ebay seem to be forcing the private seller out yet we were the ones who put ebay where they were and it wasn't intended for business's at first.
Lots of people are now moving to other platforms i've seen and and also buyers are being put off by a so called buyers fee that seems not to actually be about any kind of extra protection then there was before!
