Delivery Surcharge for overweight parcel

Hello,

Ebay automatically selected the dimensions and weight for an item I sold recently.

They calculated the parcel to be 2kg and under. However, it was 1.9kg without securely packing it. It then his approx 2.3kg on the scales at the at the Post Office. The post master accepted the parcel anyway because I showed him the attached screenshot that clearly says the courier will accept the parcel even if the dimensions / weight is more than declared.

Unfortunately it got held up for the buyer and he had to pay a surcharge for it at the mail centre for it to be collected / delivered.

Who's at fault here? Is it me for not printing a label directly with RM? I had no option to change the weight with Simple Delivery and the buyer selected the postage. I proceeded to attempt to dispatch the item because the FAQ clearly says it will be accepted? I assumed there would be no delay and surcharge. Otherwise, I would have cancelled the buyers postage and ordered it myself on their own website.

Thanks

Do you remember if when you posted the item the label had marketplace seller on it? This is what post offices should be accepting and what Royal Mail should not be surcharging for.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes it definitely said Marketplace Seller on the lower section of the label. I still have the image on my phone of the package I sent. So there should not have been any delay / surcharge on the item?

No there shouldn’t have, to my knowledge.

in theory the contract for the postage between eBay and the buyer, and it should them that should resolve the case. To be honest this the first case I have seen on these boards with your good self in this predicament. It’s a conundrum I hadn’t expected to see.
