Criminal offence by seller

I recently requested a return for an item that turned up not as described or pictured. I was met with a barrage of escalating legal threats until ebay stepped in and gave me a full refund and allowed me to keep the item. During our message exchange, the seller claimed to be a solicitor but this proved to be untrue which is a criminal offence. He was a private seller so my question is- can I request his contact details in order to report him to the police and if not would ebay provide the police with his details if they asked.

In short the answer would be no. Unfortunately there are always a few bad apples on eBay and I am sure on other sales platforms who behave badly like this.

Not even to the police! That's quite surprising. Thanks for the reply.

The 'no' was to requesting their details.  Ebay only provide these if they receive a letter from a solicitor (ironically).

If you got them then you cold report to the police.
